Singapore Trip Part II
Tuesday, December 26, 2006
Shireen, Pam and I visited the Botanical Gardens, some museums, walked around city hall area, took pics with the Merlion, went into Esplanade (a.k.a the Durians), then at night, walked a lil around Orchard Road to see the decorations and stuff.. Too bad we didn't get to take any pictures when we were at Orchard Road.. Forgot to bring the camera :(

And bloody hell, it was freaking HOT!! (The weather I mean).. Till we had to use umbrellas to protect us from the terrible heat and awfully strong UV rays of the scorching sun!

Oh, and we ate Mos Burger for lunch! Muahaha!!

I LOVE MOS BURGER!!!!

Truly enjoyed my trip to Singapore with Pam and loved spending time with Shireen and family.. and also Pam! :P

It was really tiring coz we really made the most of our time.. The amount of walking I've done in 21 years, cannot add up to the amount of walking I did in that 2 days in Singapore!

Here are some piccies we took.. Sorry Pam, I didn't realise my skills had forsaken me.. :(

The Sequel
Saturday, December 23, 2006
Went for a drive around town with dad today. Yeah, he came back.. last night!! YAY!!

I hardly recognised my own birth place! Broken windows, cars overturned, roads sunken, and most of all, everything was BROWN!!

Everyone was cleaning up, drying some stuff, throwing most away. Tow trucks and ambulance were seen everywhere. Some guys were fixing the railway tracks, others fixing roofs, floors, etc etc. Not to mention, some people were seen going through supermarket garbage bags, fishing out all the foods and whatever stuff they can grab which will be of use to them during this difficult period.

Desperate times...

Wish I had a camera at that time. It's kinda hard to explain the whole situation with just mere words.. But one word can explain the whole situation is.. HAVOC!

To you Segamat people who are not in Segamat or are in Segamat but haven't seen the aftermath of the flood, better go see before MDS cleans everything up! Shocking! It really isn't the town we know anymore..

*sighs* then *sniff*

Family Of Nine Survive For Two Days On Water From Kettle
By B. Hariharasuthan

SEGAMAT, Dec 22 (Bernama) -- "For two days, me and my family, all nine of us, survived by only drinking water from a kettle and I thought we were going to die...only God knows our ordeal."

This was the picture that S. Ramachandran, 45, from Kampung Abdullah could sketch recounting his experience after witnessing the worst flood ever occurred in Segamat, Johor in three decades.

Ramachandran, an odd job worker told Bernama that he was watching television with his family on Tuesday night when he suddenly felt chilly on his feet.

"I was shocked to see water entering my house and the water level rose so fast. It was about one metre deep and the worse part was when the lights went out. Imagine yourself surviving from flood in the dark."

"I could only hear my sons and daughters screaming for help and they held me tightly. The only thing I could grab was a kettle with water which saved us from thirst," he said, with tears streaming down his cheeks, when relating the ordeal to Bernama at the relief centre in Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Seg Hwa, here today. He said his family managed to climb up to the upper floor of his double-storey house and smashed the windows before asking for help.

"My children were crying for food, and many other families also faced the same problem. The rescue team reached here very late and there were only few boats used to ferry the victims."

Ramachandran claimed some rescue workers also asked for money from flood victims.

Kampung Abdullah is one of the many settlements in Segamat badly affected by floods. About 10,000 people from that area have been evacuated to relief centres.

Meanwhile Mohamad Irwan Abdullah, 36, said he almost lost his eight-month old baby to the flood.

Irwan said he was having dinner when the flood water began to rise swiftly while his son, Mohamad Ikmal was playing with his mother (Irwan's wife) at the hall. "It was dark because electricity supply was disconnected. I couldn't see a thing. I heard my wife screaming from the hall, saying that our baby had been swept away by flood water, which was already up to my waist.

"Suddenly I heard my son crying. I lighted my lighter and was shocked to see my son floating in the water. I grabbed him and ran to a safe place with my wife. I am still traumatised with that incident," he said when met at a relief centre here.

State Assemblyman for Gementah, Dr.Lee Hong Tee told Bernama water rationing had been imposed.

"We have to wait for army trucks to bring water supply. But the supply is very limited and I am afraid the difficulties in providing water supply may bring about sanitation problems. We hope to overcome the problem soon."

"Medical teams have been placed at these relief centres and food supplies are pouring in. Although the accommodation provided here is not that comfortable, but we are trying to give the best to the victims," he added.

The Johor District Worst Hit By Floods
Town completely cut off after Sungai Segamat bursts its banks
20 Dec 2006
Jassmine Shadiqe and Sim Bak Heng

SEGAMAT, WED.: This land-locked district in northern Johor is the worst hit by the floods, with virtually the whole town affected by the rising floodwaters. This occurred after the Sungai Segamat burst its banks late last night. By 6pm today, the water level in the river was at 11.34 metres – well above the dangerous level of 9.4 metres.

With all roads leading into the town flooded, the district is completely cut off from the north and south. It is now only accessible via air by helicopter.

The district hospital is also cut-off as the main access road has also been inundated, forcing rescue agencies to set up mobile medical clinics.

Telephone communication has also been disrupted by the floods. Many areas are also encountering mobile telecommunication difficulties.

A local resident said he saw many people stranded on rooftops and waiting to be evacuated by the rescue teams. One of them was the Calvary Charity Home in Kampung Jawa, where inmates, including several disabled people, were forced to wait for help on the roof-top after the double-storey home was flooded.

“The water level has risen to the second floor of the house. The 40 inmates have been stranded on the rooftop since 2am on Wednesday,” said its supervisor Pastor Vincent Teo.

He said police and the Fire and Rescue Department did not have enough boats to attend to the emergency. “They are doing their best to help, but we have not been able to send any food or drinks to them. The situation is really bad,” he lamented.

The Fire and Rescue Department Operation centre in Larkin, Johor Baru, said it had deployed additional men and equipment to Segamat to help in rescue and relief work.

Four helicopters, one each from the police and Armed Forces and two from the department, have also been mobilised to assist in the rescue operation. An additional two more air unit have been requested.

The joint rescue operation also involved the police, the Royal Malaysia Armed Forces, Civil Defence, General Field Force, Rela and volunteers. The district Fire and Rescue Department could not be contacted as the telephone lines have been washed away by the gushing floodwaters.

Segamat Flood Operation Centre chief Assistant Superintendent Mustapha Md Tim said 16 boats have been deployed to ferry stranded people to evacuation centres on higher ground.

He said the air unit was also dropping food and drinks to victims stranded on the rooftops.

“Fortunately, there have been no fatalities to date,” he said. The Segamat Flood Operation Centre hotline is 07-9321232.

Meanwhile, Kemelah state assemblyman Ayub Rahmat said the Desa Temu Jodoh stretch and Jalan Genuang stretch of Jalan Segamat-Yong Peng were under 1.5-metre of water.

The whole district was virtually cut off from the other districts by flood waters, he said.

"Many villages and Felda land schemes are also not accessible as roads linking to them were flooded. For instance, the concrete bridge at the entrance to Felda Redong had collapsed and this has completely cut off the accessibility of some 5,000 Felda settlers and their family members."

In Segamat town, both the bridges linking to the town are under water," he added.

Ayub said the air force from Kluang and Kuantan only started delivering food items to affected villages by helicopters starting today.

He was disappointed with the sluggish action to help flood victims due to poor coordination, lackadaisical attitude and insufficient facilities such as boats to assist victims.

SEGAMAT SUBMERGED: Heavy rain caused the Sungai Segamat and other rivers to overflow their banks, causing the town's worst floods since 1950s. Among the most badly affected areas are Taman Segar and Kampung Abdullah.--STARpic by GLENN GUAN

It's been 4 days since I last came back from Singapore. But my post this time isn't about my trip to Singapore. I'll have to wait for the pictures from Pam before I'd post about my trip.

It's been raining for 3 days non-stop! And as most of you have prolly read in the local newspapers, Segamat is now flooded!

Because of this stupid weather, I haven't seen my dad in two bloody days! And I've been staying alone at home with my dog since my mom, bro, aunt and maid all went to KL two days ago..

I HATE BEING ALONE!!!!

I HATE THE RAIN!!!!

And my dog seems to be pooping more than usual!!! ARGHHHH!!!

Fine, that's all I wanna say. In the midst of watching some Chinese show now. Chao!

I REALLY HATE THE RAIN!!!!!!

Confession
Sunday, December 03, 2006
You know the song, "sorry seems to be the hardest word"? Well.. yesterday night, after almost FOUR YEARS, I finally apologised to my ex-bf for the way I treated him when we were together. I've always felt bad for lying to him, saying that he was my second bf, when in reality, he was my first, and it makes me feel like crap whenever I recall how I used to feel embarrassed when he was at my side coz he was, well... very much shorter than the guys in my college. We were almost the same height. Oh, and I told him he was my second coz I didn't want him to think I was well... "unwanted".. Hey, I was young and stupid at that time k!

How we got together, I can honestly say, was totally in my control. Hmm.. how should I start... You see, one day in high school, my best friend told me that girls should have boyfriends in college coz if they didn't, it would be just weird! Also, at that time, I was very much in love with a guy from school. It was a one-way kinda love, and it lasted for SIX YEARS! Guys have come to me, asked me to go out with them and stuff, but I always turned them down because I just couldn't get over that guy. But I almost accepted one of my suitors, a guy two years my senior, who went after me for two years. I turned him down coz my friends used to laugh at him and his courtship, and well, that really embarrassed me. So yeah, fear of losing face was the main reason I turned him down.

Well, back to the subject on my ex. Like I said, my best friend claimed that girls who don't have boyfriends in college are weird. So, when I knew about my ex's crush on me, which btw, was quite obvious coz he practically told the whole coll, I was happy! Really happy.. I mean, how would you feel if the best looker in the whole school had a crush on you?? So anyways, I told my friend to call him, and give him a lil push, and that's what she did. She asked him to ask me to be his gf before someone else grabbed me. And she told him to ask me the next day.. Which, he did!

At the beginning, it was great! I finally had a bf after 17 years! AND I wasn't weird!! I liked him, I really did. But it didn't last. Again, coz of this thick face of mine! My friends from coll would laugh at him in front of me (of course, our relationship was kept secret) and well, I'd feel greatly embarrassed and I'd avoid him as much as possible! I didn't even bother to stand up for him.. What kinda gf was I huh? Yeah, I wonder too. And I didn't bother bringing the relationship any further, as in, we acknowledged each other as bf and gf, gave each other stuff, but we NEVER even HELD HANDS! That's also because the stupid coll was super strict abt boy-girl relationships. If you're caught together, you go for trial, then if guilty, worst punishment... KICKED OUT from coll! But still, I could've made it work somehow but my pride got in the way..

So, after waiting a month, I finally told him I wanted to break it off. I didn't tell him it was coz I was embarrassed by him, but because I wanted to concentrate on my studies. Cliche huh? My first relationship lasted for a month! And the REAL relationship with him, a WEEK! Later I found out that he told everyone he dumped me.. which came to me as a shock coz for one thing, I didn't know that he made our relationship public, and for another, he lied! And then much later, I found out that he wanted to break it up with me during the 2nd week of our relationship to ask another girl out! And that girl happens to be my friend! It seems, he didn't break up with me coz he thought I liked him too much! LOL! Ironic huh?

Well, anyways, I still feel like shit everytime I think about it. How my pride would come before anything else. I've had "so-called" two bfs after him, but he was the only REAL one up till now. I guess it's the punishment I get for treating him and the others before him the way I did. I'm really ashamed of myself. No doubt I have grown up, and have matured in many ways, but I wonder if I'd let history repeat itself in the near future or even worse, me as the victim of my own crimes! Sigh..

Anyways, once again, if you do read this post, CT, I'm really really sorry! And well, now the truth is out, I won't blame you for hating me. I hope we can still remain friends after you read this.. The truth really has been haunting me forever! And btw, my best friend.. the girl who told me that bullcrap, well... up till now, she's still single and till this very day, she denies telling me what she told me when we were young idiots in high school! Haha! *Shakes head*

Support World AIDS Day

"Stop AIDS: Keep The Promise"

The campaign "Keep the Promise", holds individuals, religious leaders, faith organizations, governments and intergovernmental organizations accountable for the commitments they have made and advocates for further efforts and resources to fight HIV and AIDS.

Adapted from: Ecumenical Advocacy Alliance

Theme: Accountability

This year's theme, "accountability", is designed to inspire citizens across the globe to hold their political leaders accountable for the promises they have made on AIDS. Targets such as the All by 2010 pledge made by world leaders last year, and the Millennium Development Goal to halt and reverse the spread of AIDS by 2015, are in serious danger of being sidelined or ignored, and much more needs to be done to ensure that these critical promises are kept. By supporting a broad movement of civil society organisations in their campaigning around this theme, the World AIDS Campaign hope to develop a sense of joint identity and common purpose and ensure that more people are made aware of the AIDS epidemic this year than ever before.

Be Safe, Be Informed, Be Alive
Friday, December 01, 2006
I'm right in front of the television right now, watching a special feature on AIDS on Channel [V]. Yeah, today is World AIDS Day. The theme of the feature is "Be Safe, Be Informed, Be Ali[V]e and is hosted by Edison Chen.

It's pretty informative, and they even did an interview with a Malaysian woman tested positive for HIV. Her story was, she had gotten the disease from her husband who had gotten his from sleeping around and yet lied to her, telling her that he got it from blood transfusions. Yeah, she found out herself when she checked his passport one fine day, only to find his passport filled with Thailand immigration chops!

When he passed away, she continued going to the hospital for further checkup (it took three years for the virus to be detected) and when she told her mother-in-law about it, she was automatically blamed for her husband's death! Her mother-in-law had accused her of being the one sleeping around and in a second, she had gone from a wonderful daughter-in-law to a whore! Sad huh? I admire her courage to tell her story on air.

Anyways, let's hope that knowledge on AIDS and HIV will expand and hopefully those who do not have HIV will treat HIV positive patients as how they would treat any normal human being and not treat them as social outcasts, thinking they can be infected by just breathing the same air as them!
