IMU Health Screening
Saturday, July 28, 2007
IMU has this "adopted" orang asli village called Kampung Tekir in the interiors of Labu, Negeri Sembilan. So anyways, today a free health screening was carried out at Kampung Tekir from 9am to 6pm and I had the privilege of joining in this wonderful event!

As usual, camwhoring session~!! Done while waiting for our transport into Kampung Tekir.. This time didn't take much pics coz Tek Jee forgot to charge his camera battery!! And he used up all his remaining battery power taking blur pics of palm trees!!

Sab, me (holding the lucky draw box and everytime someone passed by, they'd ask what's in the box and open the lid) and Tek Jee at a "pick-up point" in Labu..

The supposedly "ganas" pose... Tek Jee can never be a bad boy no matter how hard he tries lol!

Close-up of Jee's single strand of overgrown "goatee"

Sab trying to tie Jee's strand of chin hair

Our transportation into the village (which btw, is in the middle of a jungle!!)

Express Mesra a.k.a A tractor pulling a crate-looking-trailer-thingy and very very sloooow~~~!!

Jeep... Sits 4 at the back.. But Tek Jee, Sab, Joo Ee, Chern Wuay, Benjamin, Hou Juin and I managed to squeeze in.. All because we were the last ones at the "pick-up" point! (It was our fault.. we didn't wanna get onto the tractor thingy lol)

CW, Ben and HJ stood up while the rest of us sat.. Uncomfortably, I might add!! But it was an enjoyable ride coz the road (red earth) was bumpy so it was really trilling! HJ got whacked in the face by palm tree leaves about five times lol! And everytime there was a tree, everyone would shout "down! down! down!!" Funnie~! Tried uploading a short clip from the ride but failed... maybe some other time..

The residents of Kampung Tekir are generally in bad shape.. They have pretty bad hygiene coz they don't have water supply at their houses. The only place with water is the community hall (I think).. Most of the adults have pityriasis and their skins were all flaky and peeling off. Some had erythroderma and one woman came in with a really bad case of psoriasis. Her skin was pulled back so tight, her upper jaw was sticking out of her very small mouth and she had nary any fat on her! And most of them had head lice!!

The kids were in pretty bad shape too.. They had yellowish hair and that's a sign of malnourishment.. Like the adults, they also have skin problems. And it's very likely their parents don't teach them proper mannerism and stuff like that. Kids there run freely, without a care in the world and even piss in the open!! (Yeah, Sab and I saw that! LOL) They litterally swing in trees and run around barefooted! Oh, and btw.. I saw a woman breastfeeding her kid in the open!!

Speaking of being barefooted... There was a football match between IMU and the orang asli of Kampung Tekir. I didn't see what happened coz I was busy minding the registration and BMI booth but I wish I had witnessed it! Apart from IMU losing to them 8 - 2, Kugan stepped on a pile of COW DUNG.................. BAREFOOTED!! *Faint and LOL*

At the end of the day I had a "tail".. Two orang asli kids followed me all around and it was really cute! LOL! They even squat down when I squatted down! CUTE ARRR!! I think Tek Jee was jealous hahaha! Chee Wing gave them both a toy each. Really nice of him to do so. IMU also gave them and all the other kids (and big breasted teenaged girls who thinks they are still kids lol) presents! All the kids were so excited, seeing them was just.. satisfying..

I guess that's all there is to say.. It really was a memorable day~! And I'm glad I went coz not only did I get to serve the community and do some charity, but I also managed to make new friends and learn loads of new stuff!! YAY!!

My Savior on Earth
Tuesday, July 17, 2007
Everytime I tumble,
You rush to break my fall,
You'd save me in the nick of time,
With every help I call.

You guide me to adulthood,
You teach me how to see,
You'd leave no path unlit,
You show me how to be.

Forsaken have you not,
And never will you leave,
You'll be there as long as you can,
This I do believe.

I really, truly thank you,
From the bottom of my heart,
And know I'd do the same for you,
A promise on my part.

This poem I did for no one but you,
Because of the things you've helped me through,
No names are required you know who you are,
Sincerely yours, forever true.

Half A Century Has Passed...
Just some random pics I took with Tek Jee's IXUS 70 using Sepia mode.. Wanted to catch the "nostalgic feeling".. You know, in conjunction with Malaysia's 50th Independence Day...

Staying at home wasn't safe then..

Everyone called out for Freedom

Who would answer to their call?

And then from Kedah, a hero stepped up

To London, he led a delegation...

and soon, under the rain, there were shouts of "MERDEKA"

Have we come a long way since then??

Well.. sort of.. :P

We've still lots to learn.. Gambateh Malaysia!!

How did I manage to come up with such a post you ask? A picture paints a thousand words...

I was bored!! Tek Jee and Ernest went for football and conveniently left me alone to rot.. :/

Updates on IMU
Friday, July 06, 2007
After 3 years of nothing but empty promises, IMU has finally gotten the wireless internet connection up and going! Too bad I won't be here that often to enjoy this.. (-_-")

Wireless floor plan (Adapted from: http://www.imu.edu.my/)

The new auditoriums in the new block (phase 2) are already being used for lectures and most of us think the colour combinations aren't that bad, and gosh, the seats are so comfortable, you can fall asleep!! LOL! But coz the large LCD screens are so high up, no one sits at the first two rows unless they wanna start taking painkillers for their neckaches!

IMU Charity Run + Carnival 2007 (Theme: Light a hope for the little ones) is coming up on the 8th of September, at 7am til 4pm.. Carnival tickets are sold at RM10 a booklet. The general public is invited to join in the fun! Gee.. I sound like a newspaper advertisment.. IMU should pay me LOL!

B104 will hopefully be organising a Health Awareness Campaign sometime soon, and we're gonna need as much help as possible from our juniors and the medical students.. Suggested date is the 30th of September, which is World Heart Day, and suggested place is either Klang Parade or Selayang Mall. Anyone care to join? We've yet to iron out the details..

Transformers
Tuesday, July 03, 2007
Watched the movie with Jivan and Chuan Zhen at Midvalley. The movie was, in one word, SHIOK! The ending was pretty pathetic tho but on the whole, it was a good watch! When I was a kid, I truly enjoyed watching Transformers cartoon. Of course, it wasn't my favorite.. Came after Thundercats and He-Man but top three nonetheless..

Before I deviate too much, lemme just comment a lil on the movie. Unlike Fantastic Four 1, the introduction to how Transformers came about wasn't as draggy and there were more action cum battle scenes comparatively. And unlike Spidey 3, the ending wasn't as lame nor as predictable and the effects were comparable to that of Spiderman, maybe better, although the cost to produce the movie was one sixth of that of Spidey 3, as according to Alan. Like Borat, Transformers is another proof that good movies don't necessarily need a high budget to be produced.

Megatron Vs. Optimus Prime

Shia LaBouf (I think that's how his name is spelt), the young actor from Even Stevens and played the taxi boy in Constantine, did well in his role as Sam, the boy who bought a car which turned out to be an Autobot named Bumblebee. The female lead wasn't too bad either. I can say for sure that her body turned Chuan Zhen on!Haha! And the guy who acted as the butler in Mr. Deeds was also superb playing his role as some Sector 7 liutenant or something like that.. Loved the Autobots (aka the protectors), hated the Decepticons (aka the destroyers).. But hey, who likes the bad guys?? Except for people like Kiat Wei maybe.. hehe!

Transformers; a definate must watch! I rate it 7/10 (minus 3 for the pretty lame ending).
